In the Team America Rocketry Challenge, high school teams of 3-10 students design build and launch rockets under 650g total weight. The rocket must fly to a height of exactly 775ft and return to earth in a total time of 41-43s. The rocket also must contain 1 large chicken egg, and the front and back half of the rocket must be different diameters. The eggs must remain unharmed. The launch is then scored. A perfect score is 0 (zero). For every foot high or low the rocket goes from 775ft a point is added, for every second above and below the set range of time, 4 points are added to the score. A team is invited to TARC Nationals based on the sum of their two best qualifying flights. Teams may only submit 3 qualifying flights.
sample flight goes to 786ft in a time of 45s.
786ft-775ft = 11pts
45s-43s = 2s x 4 = 8pts
a total score of 19pts!
